A lot of people I know can NOT bend their wrist in a straight bar that way in the correct range of motion needed. This exercise is best performed using a curl bar.

Are your muscles for using, or are they for looking at? Forearms control the strength of your hands, which I'd say are pretty damn important if you're ever going to do anything practical.

full range of movement, direct forearm work is not necessary...all things a real newbie says.
The image i have in my mind when i hear that:
a glove wearing muscless girlyman nerd in a pink muscle shirt and flip flop.
the forearms are the the last link between all the other muscles and the object you want to lift or destroy. If they are weak, you are weak. Why would you neglect them?
The deadlift is the best muscle builder of all time, NO muscles are in full range with the deadlift.

I agree that forearm work is necessary, but whether or not to isolate them with exercises such as wrist curls is up to the individuals body type.
For some people, they get a good enough pump in the forearms on back or biceps day, others may need to have a specific time to train forearms.
To say that a certain lifting program or exercise is the best one out there or there is only one way to lift for everyone is simply not true.

The muscles you work here are exactly the same as the one's you use for drumming, I only have to train my inner forearm 'cause the drumming does the rest for me :)
